We need your help to build an interactive, online platform that will amplify the conservation community to become greater than the sum of its parts.

The Borneo Hub is a simple idea that could transform conservation work on the island of Borneo, and beyond, but we need your help to make it a reality.

It will include filterable layers on areas such as NGOs and their projects, species distribution, land use, concessions and habitat types, reports and publications, campaigns and contacts.

As much of this data as possible will be geo-tagged and the main interface will be a map that will quickly allow users to research particular topic, find experts or expand their networks, link up with local NGOs and activists, quickly identify priority areas of research, and much, much more.

The goals of the Hub are to:

  • increase transparency
  • encourage and facilitate collaboration and shared learning
  • reduce duplication and waste by NGOs and government
  • strengthen networks
  • and empower people at every level of society and in every sector.

Beyond the initial platform we also aim to build in citizen science functionality, a social network, and finally add a crowd funding area to allow donors to connect directly to projects on the ground.

The information is available and the technology is there, but there is a lot of leg work needed to bring them together.

Right now we’re working on a proof of concept to help us launch Kickstarter for seed funding in 2015. We’re populating a few layers of information to help us design the database and define the links between layers.

That’s where you come in.

We’re looking for people with good research and analytical skills to collect and review resources on some of the key drivers of deforestation, biodiversity loss, and indigenous rights issues on Borneo, along with databases of all the relevant NGOs, institutions, and geographic locations for Kalimantan, Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei .

This research will also be used to create education and outreach resources, including sections of the new Heart of Borneo website which will be launched next year as an education and outreach platform.

If you’re already interested in any of the following topics, or want to become very knowledgeable in any of these areas while working within a supportive international team, we want to hear from you:
